Top 5 Best and Worst Superbowl 42 Ads

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Another Superbowl is over and the NY Giants have come out victorious over the Patriots 17-14. Here are some of the best and worst ads from the night that was Superbowl 42.

Best

Audi R8

This was one of the first commercials and just seeing the grill of the R8 was enough to wow me.

Bridgestone Screaming Squirel

Pretty funny, especially the grasshopper or whatever it was.

Doritos Mouse

Totally unexpected.

FexEx Pidgeons

The huge pidgeons wreaking havoc was pretty cool.

Iron Man TV Spot

Maybe I’m just a sucker for superhero movies but this one just helped create more hype for me.

Worst

Sales Genie

Amature and unfunny.

Sobe

The dancing lizards were ok but the commercial as a whole was uninspiring.

Underarmor

What were they advertising? I saw some graphics of some shoes but all I remember is some jacked guy yelling.

Semi-Pro

Is Will Ferrel trying to catch up to Adam Sandler or something? This movie looks horrible.

Taco Bell

Mariachi bands don’t make a commercial and the meal they were trying to sell looked like a TV dinner.

American Gladiators is back on NBC

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Malibu American GladiatorsWith no Sunday Night Football on NBC this weekend I decided to check out the new American Gladiators. The show follows a similar formula as the previous one but with a few new changes. The main changes are the new hosts Hulk Hogan and Lala Ali, and the addition of water to some of the events.

I know there’s a writers strike but this show could really use some. The lines they were force feeding the contestants were awful, especially when you mix it in with Hogan saying “brother” every third word. The entire show comes across very scripted, although I’m not sure anyone could have planned Bonnie smacking her head into that pole during the eliminator.

Even though the show seemed very fake at times, it was still entertaining. The character “Wolf” definitely likes his job a bit to much. It was fun watching the contestants trying to climb the vertical treadmill while completely exasperated. The refs “giving him the business” reference was a bit over the top but at least they tried.

I might consider watching the show again, but the need to show more of the Assault event – that one rocks. If they did that and tazed Hogan every time he said brother I think I’d be satisfied.
