Game Time

June 7th, 2006

Tomorrow is the start of the NBA finals. Oh yeah! This post season has already been quite an exciting one, with a lot of good matchup’s and some 7 game series. I think this years finals has two great teams, both of which I’m rooting for.

The Mavs survived the Spurs and have Dirk, one of the most dominant players in the playoffs. They also have Jason Terry (JET) who is not only a good player but is surprisingly well spoken. Another key advantage they have is the depth of their bench. They’ll need everyone one it to try and control the Diesel.

The Heat are the team I like to consider the “good ole boys”. They just remind me of the side you want to win in a battle of good vs evil. They have Shaq, one of the greatest big men to ever play the game, and Dwyane Wade, a guy who truly embodies the nickname “Flash”. The Heat’s bench is not quite as deep as its opponents, but they do feature an allstar cast of players.

Ok I’m done typing.

Review: X-Men The Last Stand

June 5th, 2006

I was a bit skeptical going into this movie, after seeing that it only recieved a 56% on rotten tomatoes. I had heard other people saying that the movie was good, so I had to decide for myself.

Overall, the movie was OK. Definatly no X-Men 2. The plot was good, and there were some entertaining scenes, but they were easily overshadowed by cheesy one liners and other predictable moments. The introduction of some new characters was nice. You get to see some of Iceman’s abilities, but not enough in my opinion. The death of a certain character near the begining of the film was unessecary and didn’t add much to the film. Hally Berry has a lot of lines and screen time in the movie, but doesn’t really do much. Her mutant abilities suck for the most part – the spinning punch move is pretty weak. Overall it’s pretty much the movie you would expect from the person who directed Rush Hour.

The movie has already made a ton of cash, and will likely do so for the weeks to follow. I feel as though the sucess of the movie is because of the previous films and not because of the work of the current director. It’s unfortunate that Bryan Singer decided to leave the series for the new Superman movie, but I have a feeling it will be a much better film.
